January 6
Rental theft: Police were called to Enterprise RentaCar, 5499 Hwy. 10 East, at 8:19 a.m. when an employee reported that a homeless woman rented a vehicle and did not return it.
Rental, again: Police were called back to Enterprise at 8:26 a.m. when an employee reported finding a firearm inside a returned rental vehicle.
Trashed: Police were asked to conduct extra patrol near the Pfiffner Bandshell at 9:07 a.m. when a caller reported a 38-year-old man had left a large amount of trash in the area. The man was warned to pack up his gear and move along or he’d be cited.
Vapers: Police cited an unknown number of students for vaping at SPASH, 1201 North Point Dr., at 12:16 p.m. All identifying information about the students was redacted from the blotter.
Fraud, and creepy, too: Police were called to GI Associates, 3225 Business Park Dr., at 1:14 p.m. when an employee reported that a known 25-year-old man presented himself as an employee of a local HVAC company and asked to see the boilers. The employee said it was weird when he “did not attempt to fix anything” and she told him to leave. The man ran off on foot but later watched the employee eat lunch.
Truancy: Police cited a known female student, whose age was redacted from the blotter, for habitual truancy at SPASH at 2:43 p.m.
Big trouble: An anonymous complaint was made at SPPD about child engagement and drug trafficking at 4:02 p.m.
Brat: Police were called to the 500 block of Minnesota Ave. at 6:04 p.m. when someone reported that an 18-year-old woman had stolen her grandmother’s cell phone and left.
Nonstopper: An 18-year-old woman was cited for blowing a stop sign at Michigan Ave. and Stanley St. at 8:08 p.m.
January 7
Threats: Police were called to McDonald’s, 127 Division St. North, at 7:31 a.m., when a 32-year-old woman reported she was being threatened.
Sexual assault: Police took a report of sexual assault at 8:41 a.m.
Shoplifter: Police were called to Festival Foods, 1600 Academy Ave., at 9:50 a.m., when an employee reported a retail theft. No further details were included in the blotter.
Truancy: Police cited a girl for truancy at SPASH at 11:26 a.m. Another girl was cited at 1:17 p.m.
Crash: Police cited a 19-year-old woman for violating a red light after crashing into the vehicle driven by a 30-year-old man near Water St. and Centerpoint Dr. at 3:08 p.m.
Bloody and drunk: Police were called to the downtown library, 1001 Main St., at 8:32 p.m. when a 43-year-old intoxicated man reported having a bloody nose. The man was taken to the hospital.
January 8
Suspicious: While on patrol, an officer observed activity in the parking lot of SPASH at 2:01 a.m. After turning the car’s spotlight on, the officer saw a 34-year-old woman “quickly walk” towards a vehicle and start it. No further details were included in the blotter.
