Police & Sheriff calls, Jan. 29-31

Jan. 29

G’bye: Deputies were called to the 100 block of Main St. North in Amherst at 12:28 a.m. when a caller reported an unwanted 42-year-old man who refused to leave the premises. The man was gone when the deputy arrived.

Bar fight: Police were called to Rookies, 3425 Church St., to help break up a physical disturbance between three men at 1:35 a.m.

Suspicious: Someone called police to 101 Division St. to say they’d found a suspicious bag of white powder in the parking lot at 9:48 a.m. No further details were released.

His driving gave him away: State troopers located a motorist who was driving erratically near Hw.y 10 and Country Trunk A in Amherst at 4:23 p.m. The man was being sought by Portage Co. deputies on numerous drug charges and was taken under arrest by the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Facebook: A 36-year-old man called police from the 600 block of Walker St. at 12:50 p.m. to report he was being threatened via Facebook.

Truant: Police issued a truancy citation at Ben Franklin Jr. High, 2000 Polk St., at 2:43 p.m.

Standoff: Police were called to the 700 block of John’s Dr. at 5:13 p.m. when someone reported gunshots in the building. A 10-hour armed standoff followed, with a 55-year-old man being taken under arrest at 2:16 a.m. on the morning of Jan. 30.

Pickup: Deputies took a phone call from a man asking to be picked up somewhere on County Rd. C at 6 p.m., but then hung up. Dispatchers attempted to call the number back with no success.

Drunk: Deputies were called to the 10400 block of Saumer Rd. in Rosholt at 7:54 p.m. when a caller reported a disturbance between a 61-year-old man and his intoxicated son, age 35.

Scammed: A 27-year-old man reported to police he believed he was being scammed on a dating website at 9:12 p.m.

Jan. 30

OWI: Deputies arrested a 32-year-old man at Church and Heffron streets for operating under the influence, second offense, speeding, and operating with positive alcohol content, at 2:36 a.m.

Bad ex: A 44-year-old man called police to Four Seasons, 1430 Torun Rd., at 3:37 a.m. to report his ex-girlfriend, 30, had keyed his vehicle.

Crash: Deputies cited a 29-year-old woman for failure to keep vehicle under control, failure to notify police of an accident, and operating without insurance, following a single-vehicle accident at Hwy. 66 West and Robin Ln. at 4:35 a.m.

Crash: A 20-year-old man was cited by deputies for failure to keep vehicle under control, failure to notify police of an accident, and operating without insurance, following a single-vehicle crash near 9th St. and Duck Tr. in Custer at 11:23 a.m.

Bad guests: Police were called to Econo Lodge, 5110 Main St., at 2:03 p.m., when an employee reported the occupants of a room there refused to leave and would not answer the door. The occupants left by the time police arrived.

Bail-jumper: Police arrested a 60-year-old man on the 1500 block of Water St. at 7:36 p.m. for three counts of felony bail-jumping.

Burglary: A 21-year-old woman called police to the 2500 block of Fifth Ave. at 8 p.m. to report someone broke into her apartment and some items were taken. No further details were released.

Wrong apartment: Police were called to the 3900 block of Doolittle Dr. at 10:23 p.m. when a resident reported an intoxicated man was attempting to enter their apartment. The man’s friends were summoned and they took him to the correct residence.

Crash: A 33-year-old man was cited for not wearing a seatbelt following a rollover crash near Hwy. 10 and County Trunk T at 11 p.m.

Jan. 31

Disturbance: Police responded to the 1600 block of Main St. at 1:18 a.m. when a 26-year-old man reported he was “jumped” by 10 people then thrown through a glass table. No further details were released.

Public peeing: Police cited a 29-year-old woman for public urination near Main and Second streets at 2:33 a.m.

Truck fire: Police and firefighters from Stevens Point, along with a Portage Co. deputy, responded to the scene of a pickup truck fire at the HH exit on I-39 at 3:36 p.m. There were no injuries.

OWI: Police arrested a 24-year-old man for operating under the influence and deviating from the designated lane following a single-vehicle crash at Whiting Ave. and Water St. at 7:55 p.m.
