Police & Sheriff calls, Jan. 23-24

January 23

Hit and run: Police responded to a report of a hit and run at Soo Marie Ave. and Main St. at 8:08 a.m.

Welfare check: Officers were asked to conduct a welfare check on a possible homeless encampment near Patch St. and Bush Ct. at 9:47 a.m. Officers checked the area and didn’t find a camp.

Crash: Police were called to a crash on the 5300 block of Old Highway 18 Rd. at 10:02 a.m. No details were included in the blotter.

Fraud: A Portage Co. social worker asked police to assist with a case of fraud involving a 74-year-old man at 10:17 a.m.

Crash: A 17-year-old girl was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign at Whiting Ave. and Church St. following a crash at 10:46 a.m.

Repo threat: Police were called to Wisconsin Auto Title Loans, 3289 Church St., at 10:54 a.m. when an employee reported a 40-year-old woman whose car was repossessed had made threats that she had a GPS unit placed on her vehicle and that “she would find it.”

Truancy: Police cited a student at Ben Franklin Jr. High for first-offense truancy at 1:27 p.m.

Drunk at the bandshell: Police stopped to check on two people at the Pfiffner bandshell at 1:46 p.m. A 40-year-old man was “clearly intoxicated” but had no pending legal issues, and the woman with him, age 48, appeared to be OK. No action was necessary.

Worried mama: Police were called to the 1400 block of Torun Rd. at 3:42 when a 50-year-old woman asked for a welfare check on her daughter, whose identifying information was redacted from the blotter. The details of the call were also redacted.

Knocker: A 79-year-old woman called police to the 1700 block of Lincoln Ave. at 7:39 p.m. to report an unknown person was knocking on her door. The woman was advised to lock her doors and close her garage door and officers conducted extra patrol in the area.

Lights on: A 45-year-old woman was issued a written warning for driving without headlights near Division and Main streets at 9 p.m.

Yield: A 36-year-old woman was cited for failure to yield at Second and Walker streets at 10:31 p.m.

January 24

Lights: A 26-year-old man was issued a warning for operating without two working headlights near Clark St. and Waupaca Co. at 9:54 a.m.

Girl trouble: Police stopped to check on a suspicious vehicle inside Bukolt Park at 12:23 a.m. The motorist, a 34-year-old man, said he was “chilling out because his girlfriend was having emotional problems.” The man was told he couldn’t be in the park after hours.

Erratic: Police following an erratic driver, a 20-year-old woman, traveling east on Clark St. when she ran a red light before pulling into Aspirus Stevens Point. The woman was cited.

Cited for reasons unknown: Police conducted a welfare check on a 20-year-old man at Union St. and Washington Ave. at 1:47 a.m. The man was reportedly lost and intoxicated. He was cited for reasons not included in the blotter and given a ride home.

Bad neighbor: A 39-year-old man called police to the 1100 block of North Point Dr. at 5:11 a.m. to complain that his upstairs neighbor, a 32-year-old man, was “always stomping around his apartment when he wakes up” and it woke the caller’s family. He also complained that the man allowed his dogs to run outside without a leash, which was against the apartment complex’s rules. The man was advised to discuss the issues with his landlord.
