Police & Sheriff calls, Dec. 10-12
Editor’s note: More than three dozen collisions were reported to local law enforcement during the Friday/Saturday snow storm. For the sake of time and space, they have not all been listed here.
December 10
Fraud: A 23-year-old woman called deputies to the 300 block of Main St. North in Amherst a 7:03 a.m. to report someone was falsely presenting themselves as her at the woman’s daycare.
Runaway: Police were called to the 2000 block of Main St. at 7:32 a.m. when a 53-year-old woman reported a juvenile ran away. The child returned home a short time later.
Littering: Deputies cited a 36-year-old man for prohibited dumping/littering at County Trunk R and County Trunk B at 11:41 a.m. The motorist, a 33-year-old man, was also cited for non-registration of vehicle.
Property crime: A police resource officer responded to a reported theft and disorderly conduct by a student at SPASH, 1201 North Point Dr., at 11:59 pm. No further details were released.
Truant: A school resource officer issued a truancy citation to a juvenile at Ben Franklin Jr. High, 2000 Polk St., at 1:30 p.m.
Too much too early: Police were called to a tavern on the 400 block of Second St. at 5:07 p.m. when a caller reported an “extremely intoxicated” man, age 56, was causing a disturbance and refusing to leave. Police moved the man along.
Help: A 36-year-old woman called deputies to the 1500 block of Torun Rd. in Hull at 5:10 p.m. when she needed help with a teenage child who was very upset. The child calmed down for the night.
Crash: Police cited a 23-year-old man for failure to stop at a stop sign following a two-vehicle collision at Industrial Park Rd. and Hoover Rd. at 6:31 p.m.
Theft: Police were called to the 1600 block of Briggs St. at 7:09 p.m when a 57-year-old man reported another man, age 55, had stolen his computer.
Stuck: A 59-year-old man called deputies to report vehicles stuck in the road on Coolidge Ave. in Plover north of Prairie Dr. at 9:07 p.m.
December 11
Oops: Deputies took a report of a county plow truck that slid in at Hwy. 10 and County Hwy. B in Amherst at 6:51 a.m. The truck sustained no damage.
Rollover: Deputies cited a 19-year-old man for failing to wear a seatbelt after a rollover crash at County Trunk KK and Timberline Ct. in Amherst a 7:19 a.m.
No sled zone: Police stopped to counsel a man, age 38, who was pulling a child on a sled with his bicycle at Maria Dr. and Prentice St. at 8:48 a.m.
Speedracer: A 55-year-old woman was cited for driving too fast for conditions at mile marker 161 on I-39 at 9:16 a.m. after a single-vehicle collision.
Crash: Police cited a 79-year-old man for unsafe backing of vehicle following a two-vehicle collision on the 3100 block of Martha’s Ln. at 11:33 a.m.
Car v sign: Deputies noticed a street sign that had been damaged by a passing motorist at Fieldcrest Ave. and Ridgewood Dr. at 1:21 p.m. They notified the Village of Park Ridge.
Party crasher: Police stopped to warn kids who were climbing on the building by the sled hill at Iverson Park at 3:41 p.m.
Car v train: A 41-year-old man was cited for inattentive driving after a train struck his unoccupied vehicle at 5:12 p.m. on the 800 block of Park St.
Gassy: A 65-year-old woman called police to Wood Ln. and Fourth Ave. at 10:10 p.m. to report the smell of natural gas. The odor was later determined to be coming from the nearby paper mill.
Backseat boogie: Police stopped to check on a suspicious vehicle at Bukolt Park at 11 p.m. The officer found a 26-year-old man, and a 25-year-old woman, in the backseat. The couple was told to move along.
December 12
Fight: Police were called to a bar fight at a tavern on the 800 block of Main St. at 1:27 a.m.
What a jerk: Police were called to Politos, 960 Main St., at 2:38 a.m., when a caller reported a fight in the restaurant. During the melee, someone stole the employees’ tip jar from the counter.
Speeder: Deputies arrested a 43-year-old man for driving 100 miles an hour through a posted 70-mph zone, and for operating while suspended, at Hwy. 10 and Old Hwy. 18 Rd. at 10:56 a.m.
Homeless: Police conducted a welfare check on a 56-year-old man who was sleeping on the 600 block of Division St. at 12:54 p.m. The man denied needing any assistance and officers gave him information on the city’s warming shelter.
Thief: Police were called to a business on the 2700 block of Stanley St. at 5:48 p.m. when a 20-year-old woman reported a 41-year-old female co-worker had stolen $250 but had returned the money and did not want to press charges.
