August 7
Hit-and-run: A 65-year-old man was cited for hit-and-run on the 800 block of Whiting Ave. at 8:38 a.m.
Vagrancy: Several homeless people were moved along from the downtown bus stop at 9 a.m.
We’ve all been there: Police were called to the 1300 block of Maria Dr. at 9:27 a.m. when a 63-year-old man who was trying to direct a moving van in a parking spot complained that a 33-year-old pulled into that spot instead. The parties were separated following a verbal argument.
Can’t let go: A 28-year-old woman called police to the 1000 block of Centerpoint Dr. at 10:43 a.m. to report that her ex-girlfriend wouldn’t stop texting her, and randomly showed up at her apartment.
Found goods: Police were called to the 500 block of Third St. at 12:12 p.m. when a caller reported an abandoned bicycle. The bike turned out to have been stolen from UWSP.
You’re not exempt: A 31-year-old man was issued a warning on the 500 block of Third St. for not having registered his e-bicycle at 12:35 p.m.
Who knows: Police were called to the 1700 block of McCulloch St. at 1:15 p.m. for what’s described in the blotter as a “property crime,” noting “items of law enforcement concern,” but no real details were included in the blotter.
Homelessness: Police were called to a storage facility on the 3400 block of Church St. at 4:35 p.m. when someone reported people were possibly sleeping in one of the units there.
Get out: A 35-year-old woman called police to the 1200 block of Second St. at 7:27 p.m. to report a 30-year-old woman who was staying with her was loud and disruptive, causing neighbors to complain. The woman was allowed to retrieve some personal items from the apartment before leaving to stay with her brother.
Blowing a light: A 29-year-old man was issued a warning for running a red light at Clark St. and Michigan Ave. at 9:38 p.m.
OWI: Police arrested a 44-year-old woman for first-offense OWI near Church and Patch streets at 10:19 p.m.
What: Police were called to the 300 block of Frontenac Ave. at 11:36 after a disturbance involving threats and claims of human trafficking.
Learn how to argue better: Police were called to the 2500 block of Fifth Ave. at 11:51 p.m. when someone reported threats made during a text argument. Officers found no direct threats but advised those involved to avoid contact and to pursue a restraining order.
August 8
Break-in, maybe: Police responded to BP, 3209 Church St., at 12:32 a.m., for a burglar alarm. Officers found a pair of headphones, a lighter, firecrackers, and a can of Monster Energy near the door. Nothing was found out of place after entry, and a store manager said they’d be in later that morning.
Alarm, but no fire: Police and firefighters responded to a home on the 1200 block of Franklin St. at 5:57 a.m. when a fire alarm went off. Police were finally able to contact someone, the tenant’s mother, who in turn contacted the tenant.
Extra patrol: Police conducted extra patrol on the 2000 block of Fremont St. at 8:54 a.m., in response to recent break-ins at other vacant homes currently on the market. Everything appeared to be fine.
Speedracer: A 20-year-old man was cited for driving 53 in a 25-mph zone, operating while suspended, and not having insurance, near Hwy. 10 East and Wildwood Dr. at 9:15 a.m.
Suicide: City police responded to County X North and North Second Dr. in the Town of Hull at 1:18 p.m. when someone reported a man lying in the street with “severe head trauma” and was pronounced dead on the scene. The investigation was turned over to the sheriff’s office.
Not loud: Police were called to the 2900 block of Fifth Ave. at 9:21 p.m. when someone complained about loud noise from a neighbor holding a wedding party. The responding officer didn’t consider the noise to be unreasonable, but advised the residents, and they turned the music down.
Non-stop: Police issued a verbal warning to a 41-year-old woman near Fourth Ave. and Union St. at 11:09 p.m. for running a stop sign.
Seriously: A 16-year-old girl reported to police at 11:50 p.m. that her ex-boyfriend had stolen her marijuana. Officers took possession of the girl’s drug paraphernalia, and she was cited.
August 9
In a bad way: Police were called to Brick Haus, 1343 Second St., at 1:05 a.m. to conduct a welfare check on a 32-year-old man who was “heavily intoxicated male found with puke on himself.” The man denied needing any assistance.
Threats: A 26-year-old man called police to the 2700 block of Indiana Ave. at 7:27 a.m. to report that his neighbor sent his girlfriend a threat over a dash cam. Officers determined the text was “vague and implied harm” and advised the man to block the number and limit contact with the neighbor.
Homeless camp: Police responded to Brilowski Rd. and Hwy. 10 East at 8:59 a.m. and found a tent in the woods, east of the Dunhams building. The man living there, 33, worked at a local restaurant. He was told to pack up and move along, which he did.
Ignored the signs: Police cited a 78-year-old woman who drove around marked squad cars with emergency lights on that were blocking traffic from a flooded Patch St. underpass following a storm at 10:35 a.m.
Trespasser: Police cited a 36-year-old woman for trespassing on the 3300 block of Minnesota Ave. at 11 a.m. after she returned to a property from which she’d been banned.
A meth’d up report: Police were called to the downtown square at 12:21 p.m. when someone reported homeless people smoking meth. It turned out to be unfounded.
Homeless: Police found several homeless people loitering at the Pfiffner Bandshell at 1:05 p.m. Two people were warned for loitering, and one was cited, as they had previously been banned from city parks.
Drunk at the library: Police were called to the downtown library, 1001 Main St., at 1:39 p.m., when someone reported a 57-year-old woman who was “looking into cars and talking to herself.” The woman said she had been drinking. She was warned to refrain from suspicious activity or she might be arrested.
Wrong-way: Police issued a verbal warning to a 27-year-old man who was driving the wrong way on Clark St. near Third St. at 2:15 p.m.
Who knows: Police were called to KASH Park, 1201 West Whitney St., at 5:31 p.m., for suspicious activity, but details were redacted from the blotter.
Return of the library lady: Police responded to the 200 block of West Clark St. at 6:40 p.m. for suspicious activity. A 57-year-old woman was unable to start her vehicle because she had an IID installed, and the car wouldn’t start because she was drunk. She declined assistance.
Library lady, hat-trick: Police were called to Westside Mobil, 232 West Clark St., when a 57-year-old woman, unable to start her car, began causing a verbal disturbance. She was told to sit in the park and sober up before driving.
Library lady x4: Police arrested a 57-year-old woman after she reportedly attempted to break into a home on the 1200 block of West River Dr. at 8:39 p.m.
Homeless problems: Police were called to Kwik Trip, 3258 Church St., at 11:18 p.m., for suspicious activity. A 58-year-old woman was reportedly attempting to get “free hotel and food” from officers. She and a male companion were reportedly sleeping in the display sheds at a nearby business.
