Police & Sheriff calls, Aug. 28-30

August 28

Trash: Deputies were called to check on a road hazard at West Clark St. and West Zinda Dr. at 12:30 a.m. The deputy found miscellaneous clothing and garbage in the road and cleared it.

Counterfeit: Staff at Kwik Trip, 5311 Old Highway 18 Rd., reported to police at 8:10 a.m. that someone paid for merchandise using a motor prop $10 bill.

Speeder: Deputies issued a written warning to a 57-year-old man for driving 74 in a 55-mph zone near County Hwy. D and Taft Rd. in Plainfield at 10:46 a.m.

Speeder: A 22-year-old man was cited for driving 88mph on I-39 and for not having proof of insurance.

Speedracer: Deputies cited a 35-year-old woman for driving 94mph on I-19 in Bancroft at 1:20 p.m.

Gross: Deputies requested charges of disorderly conduct be filed against a 31-year-old male inmate at the Portage Co. Jail after the man “threw toilet water at another inmate” at 2:04 p.m.

Fight: Police arrested a 36-year-old man following a disturbance on the 200 block of Fourth Ave. at 6:07 p.m.

Shoplifter: Police filed charges against a 36-year-old man for shoplifting from Kwik Trip, 3258 Church St., at 6:30 p.m. No word on what was stolen.

Hallway monitor: A 61-year-old woman called deputies to the 900 block of Woodland Cir. in Plover at 8:12 p.m. to report a “person riding a bike without a safety vest.” Deputies did not respond.

Bikes not exempt: Police stopped a 20-year-old man on a bicycle at Phillips and Briggs streets for failing to yield to traffic and not having a rear light after dark. He was issued a verbal warning.

Who knows: Police were called to the 1300 block of Maria Dr. at 9:23 for a property crime, but no details were included in the blotter.

Quite the melee: Deputies and medics were called to the Lake DuBay boat landing at 9:35 p.m. when about two dozen people, ages 15-20, were involved in a physical disturbance. One person was arrested for battery and auto theft, and several underage citations were issued.

Non-stopper: A 53-year-old woman was issued a warning for failure to stop at a flashing red light at Church and Nebel streets at 11:12 p.m.

Fight: One person was arrested for disorderly conduct, resisting and officers, and criminal damage to property, following a disturbance at Firecracker Too Bar, 117 Main St., in Almond, at 11:48 p.m.

August 29

Fight: Police arrested a 30-year-old man after a physical altercation outside of Graffiti’s in downtown Stevens Point at 1:10 a.m.

Over-imbibing: Police found a 24-year-old man “laying [sic] on his back on the bridge covered in puke” at West Clark and Water streets at 1:35 a.m. The man was given a ride home and left in the care of his roommates.

Homeless issues: After being called to the West Clark Street bridge for vagrancy, one man, age 48, was arrested at 1:46 a.m.

Theft: A 19-year-old woman called police at 2:39 a.m. to report that her scooter was stolen from the 900 block of Main St.

Crash: Police responded to a two-vehicle collision on the 200 block of Prentice St. North at 9:11 a.m.

Ill-gotten booty: Police were called to the 700 block of Bukolt Ave. at 9:13 a.m. for an incident related to stolen property in an apartment there.

Red light runner: Police cited a motorist for running a red light near Michigan Ave. and Clark St. at 11:25 a.m., causing a two-vehicle collision.

Wrong way: A 70-year-old man was issued a warning for driving the wrong way and not having proof of insurance near Clark and Division streets at 3:20 p.m.

Help: City police were called to the 400 block of Maple Bluff Dr. at 5:09 p.m. to help deputies take a combative 59-year-old man into custody.

Can’t stay here: Police were called to Taco Johns, 1616 Academy Ave., at 7:05 p.m., when someone reported a homeless man sleeping on an exterior bench there. The man was told to move along.

Not a house fire: Deputies and firefighters were called to 8224 Standing Rocks Rd. in Amherst at 7:41 p.m. after someone reported a structure fire. It turned out to be a controlled burn.

Underage: During a regular bar check, officers found three underage people in Top Hat Bar, 1346 Third St., at 10:23 p.m. Three women, ages 19 and 20, were cited.

Wrong way: A 16-year-old boy was cited for driving against traffic near Clark and Third streets, and also for driving without proof of insurance at 9:11 p.m.

Homeless: Police found a 29-year-old man sleeping in the doorway of Bound to Happen bookstore in downtown Stevens Point at 11:16 p.m. The man was told to move along.

Fleeing: Deputies conducted a traffic stop on an ATV near Oak St. and County Hwy. A in Almond at 11:53 p.m., but the operator fled law enforcement. The driver, a 22-year-old male, was eventually arrested for felony fleeing an officer, operating while intoxicated, and other DNR-related citations.

Threats, maybe: Police were called to the 600 block of John’s Dr. at 11:49 p.m. when a 38-year-old woman said she’d been threatened by text. When the officer asked to see the messages, the woman accused the officer of not being compassionate enough and did not care about her issue.

August 30

Passed out: Police found a 21-year-old man passed out on the ground near Mid-State, 1001 Centerpoint Dr. at 12:48 a.m. Medics were also called to the scene, but the man eventually walked away on his own. No additional details were included in the blotter.

Theft: A 44-year-old woman called police to Lark Storage, 5375 Hwy. 10 East, at 1:15 p.m. to report that someone entered her storage unit and took several items. No additional information was included in the blotter.

Trashed: Police took a report at 1:19 p.m. that people fishing off the Black Bridge at the end of Wisconsin St. were leaving trash in the area.

Drunk: Police were called to Holiday Inn Express, 1100 Amber Ave., at 3:47 p.m. when someone reported a “highly intoxicated” woman sitting the grass between the hotel and the Aldi’s store. The woman said she’d called an Uber because she was trying to get to Rosholt.

Domestic: A 39-year-old woman was arrested for disorderly conduct following a domestic disturbance on the 8300 block of Monica Rd. in Bacroft at 5:19 p.m.

Crazy crash: Deputies were called to the 9700 block of Oakdale Dr. in Almond at 5:39 p.m. when a man reported a car traveling east had left the roadway and crashed into a fence and a tree in his yard at some point over the past few days while he was out of town. The offending motorist also left behind a beer can.

Tweaker: Police were called to Pfiffner Pioneer Park at 6:54 p.m. when someone complained a 35-year-old woman was “tweaking out” and swearing loudly near the playground. The woman was warned against the behavior and offered assistance to get off the streets.

Help: An 18-year-old woman called police to the 158 off-ramp of I-39 when she had two flat tires and needed a tow.

August 31

Bad dream: A 29-year-old woman texted 911 to say she was not feeling well due to a dream she’d had. She declined any assistance, but officers provided her with some resources for help.
