Police & Sheriff calls, Aug. 18-19
August 18
Loose cows: Deputies were called to the 4800 block of Oriole Rd. in Junction City at 6:50 a.m. when someone reported loose cattle in the area.
Park sleeper: A 37-year-old woman called police to Seramur Park, 1401 East Ave., at 8:38 a.m., concerned about a 57-year-old man sleeping in the bathroom there. The man denied sleeping in the bathroom, but admitted he was homeless. He denied assistance or referrals for help.
Hit & run: County deputies and Plover officers worked together in an attempt to locate a hit-and-run suspect near Hoover Ave. and Roosevelt Dr. at 10:35 a.m.
Put down the phone: Deputies cited a 66-year-old woman for using her cell phone while driving in a work zone near County Hwy. BB and Hwy. 54 at 10:57 p.m.
Threats: A 59-year-old man called police to Kwik Trip, 1600 Maria Dr., at 11:33 a.m., to report that a 62-year-old woman had threatened him. The man said he only wanted police to talk to the woman.
Crash: Police responded to a minor two-vehicle collision at Church and Division streets at 1:16 p.m. No injuries were reported.
Jerk: A county highway supervisor called deputies to report that a male motorist in a blue Chevy truck approached a road closure and “yelled and cussed” at the employee before eventually leaving at around 2:10 p.m. The driver was tracked down via his license plate, but the blotter doesn’t indicate if he was cited.
Trash: Police were called to the 2500 block of Nebel St. at 2:24 p.m. when a 55-year-old woman reported a “pile of abandoned property” left on trailer park property. The police disposed of the trash.
Junk: Police found abandoned property left on a picnic table at Koziczkowski Park at 2:58 p.m. They disposed of it.
Chronic theft: Police responded to Pfiffner Pioneer Park at 2:59 p.m. for a 19-year-old man who was “drinking in the park and in possession of stolen bike,” the third bike he’d reportedly stolen in the past month. The man had already been trespassed from all city parks due to drinking, having garbage around, and having stolen property inside city parks. The man admitted to having stolen the bike from the 1000 block of Ellis St. He was cited for loitering.
Bike thief: A 39-year-old woman called deputies to Lower Whiting Park at 3:10 p.m. to report that a $2,500 bike was stolen from the park the day before.
Homeless camp: Police were called to an alleyway on the 1000 block of Ellis St. at 3:14 p.m. when someone reported a homeless camp there. The city planned to reach out to volunteers for a cleanup.
Problems: A 51-year-old man was banned from all city parks and issued a citation for disorderly conduct following a verbal argument with a 48-year-old woman at Pfiffner Pioneer Park at 3:18 p.m.
Garbage cart injury: A 56-year-old man called deputies to the 1600 block of Jordan Rd. at 3:41 p.m. to report that a passing motorist struck his garbage cart, damaging it. The man needed to file a police report before requesting a replacement.
Strays: A 57-year-old woman called deputies at 5:40 p.m. to report that calves belonging to a neighbor were in her yard on the 9800 block of 3rd Ave. in Almond. It was the second time in a month the woman complained about loose cows in her yard. The owner was warned he would be cited if there was another incident.
Cheap threats: A 59-year-old man was trespassed from Dollar General in Rosholt at 6:18 p.m. for making threats in the store.
Car v e-bike: Deputies and police were called to the 3600 block of County Hwy. R in Plover at 6:39 p.m. for a report of a Jeep Liberty striking an e-bicyclist. The victim “ran off” prior to law enforcement arrival, and officers were unable to locate them.
Scary moment: Police were called to the 800 block of Pulaski Pl. at 6:56 p.m. when a woman reported that a younger white man was banging on her door, yelling profanities, and trying to get inside. He then left in a newer SUV. She requested extra patrol in the area.
Stolen vehicle: Deputies and Plover officers were notified via Flock camera that a vehicle reported as stolen in Iowa was entering the Portage Co. area at 7:29 p.m. Following a vehicle pursuit, the suspect, who was not identified in the blotter, was arrested near Plover Rd. and Earhart Ave.
Return to Black Bridge: Police were called to Black Bridge at the end of Wisconsin St. at 7:39 p.m. when someone reported suspicious activity. Officers found an empty pill bottle and some gloves, and disposed of them.
Woah, speedracer: A 20-year-old man was cited for driving 98 mph in a 70-mph zone on I-39 near mile marker 164 at 11:05 p.m.
August 19
Suspicious: Police responded to Main St. and Strongs Ave. at 3:03 a.m. after observing suspicious behavior on downtown surveillance cameras. Several homeless people in the area said they sweep wood chips back into the planting area because there was “something wrong” with the city sprinklers that blew the wood chips around.
Gunshots, maybe: Deputies and police were called to the area of Goodwill, 5373 Hwy. 10 East, at 3:40 a.m. when someone reported hearing gunshots in the area. The area was also checked for gun casings, but nothing was found.
Sleeper: Police moved along a 35-year-old man for sleeping in the downtown bus shelter at 5:38 a.m.
