Police & Sheriff calls, Aug. 17-18

August 17

Unsuccessful: Deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant on the 1200 block of Ridge Rd. in Custer at 7:20 a.m. Through a window, they observed a man get up from a couch and move out of view. They knocked several times but no one answered the door.

Bad neighbors: Deputies responded to the 1500 block of Torun Rd. at 8:37 a.m. when a 37-year-old woman reported that the valve stem cap on her front passenger-side tire appeared to have been broken off. She requested the incident be documented due to an ongoing dispute with her neighbor.

Homeless camp: Officers responded to a wooded area just north of BP/Legacy Restaurant at I-39 and Hwy. 10 at 9:50 a.m. to clean up and dispose of items left at an abandoned homeless camp.

Jerk: A 38-year-old man was issued a warning for failure to slow down for highway maintenance crews at 10:15 a.m. on I-39 near Hwy. 10 West.

Theft: A 23-year-old man called police to the 1200 block of North Point Dr. at 10:21 a.m. to report items had been stolen from his vehicle.

Vagrancy: Police issued several verbal warnings to people riding unlicensed bicycles at Main St. and Strongs Ave. at 1:20 p.m.

Homeless: Police moved along a 50-year-old homeless man who was loitering in the library tunnel at 1:31 p.m.

Busted: Police arrested a homeless man, age 61, with an open warrant from the downtown bus station at 1:36 p.m.

Brewskies and more: Police disposed of several discarded beer cans inside the Pfiffner Bandshell at 2:05 p.m. More beer cans, garbage, and camping gear were disposed of from Clark St. and West Whitney St. at about the same time.

Jerk: Someone reported the theft of two flags and a damaged flagpole on the 200 block of Second St. North at 2:52 p.m.

Auto theft: A 20-year-old man called deputies to the 300 block of Lincoln St. in Amherst at 7 p.m. to report a stolen vehicle.

Grow up: Police were called to the 3100 block of Ellis St. at 8:55 p.m. when a 28-year-old man accused a 25-year-old man of impersonating others online and saying vulgar things.

Bad blood: A 38-year-old man called police to the 600 block of Sixth Ave. at 9:01 p.m. to report that a family member had damaged his TV and stolen a PlayStation and several delivered packages. He wanted to file charges, but the suspect’s whereabouts were not immediately known.

Threats: Police were called to the 2800 block of Algoma St. at 9:38 p.m. when a 51-year-old man reported being threatened by former coworkers. At least one person was trespassed from the man’s home.

Too slow: A 46-year-old woman was issued a written warning for driving 20 miles under the speed limit near mile marker 153 in Plover at 10:47 p.m.

August 18

Push it: Deputies stopped to help an 18-year-old man near River View Ave. and Echo Dells Dr. who ran out of gas at 2:36 a.m. The deputy provided safety lights while the motorist pushed it to Kwik Trip on Church St.

Drunk: A 30-year-old man was arrested for a second-offense OWI near Kellner Rd. and 71st St. after being caught driving without headlights.
