Police & Sheriff calls, April 6-7

Police blotters sent out by local law enforcement agencies are now far longer with less than half of the information necessary to produce an informative blotter. Find out why by clicking here. 

April 6

Non-stopper: A 24-year-old was cited for running a red light at Water St. and Centerpoint Dr. at 1:52 a.m.

Hotel argument: Police were called to Days Inn, 159 Division St. North, at 4:14 a.m., after receiving multiple calls about a couple arguing in their room. The couple agreed to separate for the night.

Welfare check: A 46-year-old woman called police to request a welfare check on a man she encountered in front of her home. She said the man appeared to be upset and claimed he planned to jump off the Black Bridge. No additional details were included in the blotter.

Street preacher: Police were called to Main St. and Frontenac Ave. at 10:15 a.m. for a man, whose age was not included in the blotter, who was shouting and aggigated. The man told police he was preaching and refused to identify himself.

Suspicious: Police were called to Sentry, 1501 North Point Dr., at 10:58 a.m. when someone reported a suspicious person who appeared to be pulling on the doors of the building. The man, 19, told police he was merely out exploring the city, and apologized for causing any concern.

Who knows: Police were called to Rogers Cinema, 2725 Church St., at 1:11 p.m. for a report of a disturbance that occurred the night before. Additional details were redacted from the blotter.

Savior girlfriend: A 42-year-old woman walked into the SPPD at 1:58 p.m. to report online threats against her boyfriend, who was on trial for assaulting another woman. The girlfriend told police that the victim was “clearly lying” and was “too drunk to know what happened.”

Parking: Officers ticketed two vehicles that were parked on the grass at KB Willet Arena, 1000 Minneosta Ave., at 2:40 p.m.

Dumper: Police were called to the 700 block of John’s Dr. at 2:51 p.m. when a non-tenant of the apartment complex there was dumping furniture into the dumpster. The suspect, a 42-year-old man, said he was a housing authority tenant elsewhere in the city and believed he was permitted to use the dumpster. Officers told him he had to remove the furniture from the dumpster, which he did.

Troublemaker: Police responded to Mead Park, 1001 West River Dr., at 4:42 p.m. when a known 48-year-old woman was causing a disturbance there. She was arrested on five counts of bail jumping.

Dru problems: Police were asked to conduct a welfare check on a 34-year-old woman at Kwik Trip, 3258 Church St., who employees believed was high on drugs. The woman was arrested for possession of meth and resisting an officer. Additional details were redacted from the blotter.

April 7

In the park after dark: Police stopped to check on a vehicle at Iverson Park at 1:31 a.m. Inside the vehicle were two women who said they did not know the park closed at 11 p.m. They were told to leave.

Shooting: Police responded to what was called in as a crash on the downtown Square at 2:03 a.m. Upon arrival, officers learned that three men, ages 18, 19, and 22, were involved in disorderly conduct. One of the men was reportedly shooting a pellet gun at a friend, while another was arrested for conceal carry without a permit, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, and disorderly conduct. Kid problems: A mother walked into SPPD at 9:59 a.m. to complain that a neighbor’s child showed her minor daughter inappropriate pictures and video. Additional details were redacted from the blotter.

Homeless: Police stopped to check on a family currently living in their vehicle at McDonald’s, 127 Division St. North, at 12:53 p.m. Both parents were employed and were in the process of finding a permanent residence. Officers offered the family additional services.

Arrest: Police responded to the Wisconsin Dept. of Probation and Parole, 1001 Maple Bluff Ave., at 3:35 p.m. to arrest a 38-year-old man on a probation hold.

Crash: Police responded to a two-vehicle collision, with injury, in the North Point Dr. roundabout at 3:43 p.m.

Sleep: Police were called to Little Scholars Child Card, 3301 John Joanis Dr., at 6:32 p.m., to conduct a welfare check on a woman sleeping in her car. The woman, 25, was awakened and picked up her child. No additional details were included in the blotter.

Disturbance: Police responded to the 2100 block of Elk St. at 8:21 p.m. when a 51-year-old man and a woman, age 46, got into an argument over the man’s Cash App account.
