Police & Sheriff calls, April 4-5
April 4
Teen trouble: Police cited a juvenile for possession of nicotine pouches and cigarettes at Ben Franklin Jr. High, 2000 Polk St., at 8:46 a.m.
Driving problems: A 43-year-old man was cited for operating while suspended and driving without insurance near County Hwy. HH and Iris Ln. at 10:38 a.m.
Littering problems: Police cited a 40-year-old man for littering at he was seen on camera kicking his trash into the corner and leaving it there at the Pfiffner bandshell at 11:11 a.m. Several trash items had to be collected and disposed of by the city’s streets department.
School problems: Police were asked to conduct a welfare check on a student who walked away from Washington Elementary 3500 Prais St., at 12:01 p.m.
Jerk: A 45-year-old man called police to report someone in a black truck “ripping in and out of Bukolt Park” at 12:12 p.m.
Mom should know better: Police were called to Jefferson Elementary, 1800 East Ave. at 12:31 p.m. when a 31-year-old woman walked past the staff desk at the afternoon Boys and Girls Club held at the school and approached one boy, telling him to stay away from her kids.
Gross: Police were called to Sixth Ave. and Prentice St. at 2:06 p.m. when a caller reported finding a used syringe lying in the street. An officer disposed of the item properly.
Crash: Police responded to a two-vehicle collision in the parking lot at McDonald’s, 127 Division St. North, at 3:55 p.m. No injuries were reported.
Worrier: A 21-year-old man called police to the 2600 block of Fourth Ave. at 4:33 p.m. to report his wallet was missing.
Busted: Police found a wanted 37-year-old man at Kwik Trip, 3533 Stanley St., at 4:58 p.m.
Fraud: A 72-year-old woman called police to the 3300 block of Whiting Ave. at 6:05 p.m. to report she’d been coerced into giving her banking details by a third party.
Busted: A 36-year-old woman was issued a warning for driving without headlights in the North Point Dr. roundabout at 9:19 p.m.
Chase: A woman whose age was redacted from the blotter reported to police at 9:35 p.m. that her son, whose age was also redacted, had been yelled at and chased by a homeless person in downtown Stevens Point.
April 5
Not a hotel fight: Police were called to La Quinta Inn, 4917 Main St., at 12:53 a.m. when a caller reported two guests were fighting. The parties agreed to go to bed for the night.
Disturbance: A 22-year-old woman reported a disturbance at Brick Hause, 1343 Second St., at 1:51 a.m., but no details were included in the blotter.
Runaway: Police were asked to conduct a welfare check on a 15-year-old runaway at Kwik Trip, 3258 Church St., at 3:10 a.m. Following the officers’ investigation, charges were referred to the Portage Co. DA’s Office, but all additional information was redacted from the blotter.
Busted at the band shell: A 39-year-old man was arrested on drug charges at the Pfiffner Pioneer Park Bandshell at 9:09 a.m.
Property crime: A 22-year-old man flagged down a passing officer near Water St. and Arlington Pl. at 9:44 a.m. to report that the door to one of the outbuildings on his property had been kicked in.
Ring and run: A 62-year-old woman called police to the 2200 block of Dixon St. at 11:10 a.m. to report seeing two juvenile girls ring her Ring doorbell and then run away. At one point, the girls covered the camera with a piece of tape. No additional details were included in the blotter.
Disturbance: Dispatchers received a call at 11:16 a.m. that a large protest had formed in front of the downtown post office. Officers responded but did not see any violations of the law and asked post office staff to notify them if anything escalated.
Domestic: Police responded to a domestic disturbance on the 2600 block of Indiana Ave. at 1:48 p.m. A 19-year-old woman was arrested for disorderly conduct/domestic abuse.
Another roundabout crash: Police responded to a two-vehicle collision at the North Point Dr. roundabout at 2:34 p.m. No injuries were reported.
Another trip to Indiana: Police responded for a reported disturbance on the 2600 block of Indiana Ave. at 7 p.m. but many details were redacted.
Fighting on Forest: Police were called to the 200 block of Forest St. North at 9:45 p.m. when someone reported a disturbance. It turned out to be a verbal altercation and nothing more.
Wrong-way: A 57-year-old man was issued a warning for driving the wrong way at Clark and Water streets at 10:10 p.m.
