Police investigating Sunday death on Second St.

Stevens Point police are investigating a possible drug overdose death that occurred on Jan. 5.

Officers and Stevens Point paramedics were called to a home on the 900 block of Second St. at 6:07 p.m. Witnesses say police entered a home across the street from a local bar and a short time later, the Portage Co. Medical Examiner’s van was seen at the home.

Assistant Police Chief Mike Rottier confirmed a 37-year-old man from the Wood Co. area died in the home. Police suspect the cause of death was a drug overdose, but Rottier added the medical examiner was awaiting autopsy results from the state lab in Madison.

Police remained on the scene for about two-and-a-half hours.
