Stevens Point police have identified the suspect in Saturday’s high-risk traffic stop.

David C. Tejeda, 29, of Stevens Point, was arrested near Madison and Reserve streets on Aug. 3 following an investigation into threats against law enforcement.

Police conducted a high-risk traffic stop on Madison St. at 5:56 p.m. Aug. 3, just east of Reserve St. According to a news release from Assistant Police Chief Tom Zenner, the motorist was identified as being connected to the investigation.

Zenner said Tejeda was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident.

“Officers did have long guns displayed, but everything went down without incident,” Zenner said by phone on Saturday.

As part of their investigation, police seized an assault rifle, ammunition, and a ballistic vest.

Tejeda is facing an initial charge of felon in possession of a firearm. He was previously convicted of unlawful use of a firearm in Missouri and is being held at the Portage Co. Jail on a probation violation.
