Police and Sheriff calls, September 22-23

Police blotters sent out by local law enforcement agencies are now far longer, with less than half of the information necessary to produce an informative blotter. Find out why by clicking here. 

September 22

Who knows: A disturbance was reported at Strongs Ave. and Main St. at 8:41 a.m., but no details were included in the blotter.

Homeless camp: Police stopped at 1039 BP, 4928 Main St., at 9:54 a.m. to check the area for homeless encampments. Officers found an abandoned bike in the area.

Truck guy: Police stopped a 17-year-old boy at Clark St. and Illinois Ave. at 10:02 a.m. and cited him for not having proof of insurance. He was also warned for unnecessary acceleration, unsafe lane deviation, and tire protrusion.

Who knows: Police were called to University Inn and Suites, 5110 Main St., at 10:04 p.m., when a 53-year-old man reported a property crime, but no details on what happened were included in the blotter.

Homeless: Police responded to the bus stop at Main St. and Strongs Ave. at 10:10 a.m. to warn a group of homeless people that they had to consolidate their belongings to one area to allow others to use the bus stop.

Borrowed, or not: A 27-year-old man called police to the 2100 block of Madison St. at 9:12 a.m. to report he’d lent his vehicle to a friend, but that he never told the friend when to return it, and the vehicle hadn’t yet been returned.

Homeless watch: Police conducted extra patrol at Mead Park at 10:27 a.m. to check for trash and homeless camps. No word on whether they found any.

Theft: Police were called to the 800 block of Smith St. at 8:43 a.m. for a report of a stolen bike, but for some reason, details were redacted from the blotter.

Hangin’ out: Police were called to the parking lot of Rocky Rococo, 135 Division St. North, at 11:44 a.m. when someone reported “high schoolers hanging out in the parking lot.” Officers observed no disturbance, but advised the kids to pick up their trash.

Grow up: A 58-year-old man called police to Main St. and Strongs Ave. at 11:49 a.m. to report that another man, age 54, was “messaging a friend of his saying bad things.” Officers attempted to contact the offending man but were unsuccessful.

Drinkin’ on the street: A 59-year-old man was cited for having an open intoxicant on the street at Water and West Clark streets at 11:59 a.m.

Not trash: A 64-year-old man called police to the 3200 block of Algoma St. at 11:34 a.m. to report that his male neighbor, 78, had been “leaving trash in his yard.” The trash ended up being “blades of grass picked by hand and thrown over the fence.”

Redacted, for some reason: A 23-year-old man called police to the 2800 block of Soo Marie Ave. at 1:15 p.m. to report a “property crash,” but details were redacted from the blotter.

Busted a school: Police arrested a juvenile at the request of a case worked from SPASH, 1201 North Point Dr., at 1:41 p.m. All details were redacted from the blotter.

Missing: Someone reported a missing person at Bannach Elementary, 5400 Walter St., at 3:02 p.m., but zero details were included in the blotter.

Fraud: A 68-year-old woman called police at 3:21 p.m. to report a third party had ordered about $4,000 worth of items under her name via Walmart’s website.

Vandal: A 71-year-old man called police to the 2800 block of Water St. at 3:27 p.m. to report that someone had thrown a “mint green substance” against his garage and door. He told police that he believed it might have been the same person who painted over his Trump sign a few years back. No additional details were included in the blotter.

Arrest: Police arrested a 26-year-old man from his probation agent’s office at 4:06 p.m. Additional details were redacted from the blotter.

No idea: Police were called to a “property crime” on the 1900 block of Texas Ave. at 3:46 p.m., but no details were included in the blotter.

Wrong person: A 43-year-old reported to police at 5:42 p.m. that she’d been inaccurately mailed someone else’s medication.

Lights: A 21-year-old man was issued a written warning for expired registration and driving without lights near Division St. North and Academy Ave. at 7:35 p.m.

Thrower: Police were called to the 200 block of Prentice St. North at 7:50 p.m. when someone reported a disturbance involving “yelling and throwing items around the residence,” but additional details were redacted from the blotter.

Road rage: Police received an email about a road rage incident near Centerpoint Dr. and Church St. at 8:54 p.m. The message stated that a 43-year-old man was following a 43-year-old woman “due to a political sticker on her vehicle” beginning in the former Shopko parking lot. The email said that the man was “making obscene gestures, terrifying her child and her.” No additional details were included in the blotter.

Pay attention: A 19-year-old woman was warned for inattentive driving on the 3000 block of Church St. at 11 p.m. No word on what she’d been doing.

Busted at Micky D’s: An 18-year-old woman was arrested on a warrant following a traffic stop at McDonald’s, 127 Division St. North, at 12:08 a.m. More details were included, but redacted from the blotter.

Confused drivers: Police issued several warnings for violating odd-day parking at various intersections along Maria Dr. between 3:36 and 3:42 a.m.
