Police and Sheriff calls, September 2-3

September 2
False alarm: Police were called to an alarm at an ATM on the 1200 block of Badger Ave. at 8:59 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered an authorized contractor was working on the ATM, and there was no problem.
Axled out: Police stopped to assist a motorist whose vehicle had broken down at Main and Fremont streets at 9:55 a.m., and was blocking traffic. The motorist’s axle had broken, and the officer helped the 19-year-old woman push it out of the road. A tow truck was called to the scene.
Busted: A 76-year-old woman notified police at 10:12 a.m. that someone had struck her vehicle and damaged the passenger-side mirror while she was somewhere on Jefferson St.
Papers: A 67-year-old man was issued a written warning for non-registration of vehicle and operating without proof of insurance near Stanley St. and Minnesota Ave. at 10:52 a.m.
Trespasser: Police were called to the 2600 block of Leahy Ave. at 11:19 a.m. when a man reported a known 57-year-old woman had entered an upstairs area of the home through his unlocked door with her dog. He asked to have the woman trespassed from the property.
Outta gas: Police stopped to assist a 21-year-old man who ran out of gas at Maria Dr. and Division St. at 12:29 p.m.
Shoplifter: A 22-year-old woman was arrested for retail theft at Target, 5300 Hwy. 10 East at 1:10 p.m. Additional details were redacted from the blotter.
Issues: A 63-year-old man called police to the 200 block of Prentice St. North at 2:41 p.m. to report “noise issues” with his upstairs neighbors, but those issues “did not meet the criteria for police involvement.”
Fraud: A 41-year-old man reported fraud at 3:22 p.m. on the 2100 block of Texas Ave. No details on the kind of fraud were included in the blotter.
Speeder: Police cited a 16-year-old girl for speeding near Brilowski Rd. North and North Point Dr. at 3:56 p.m. No word on how fast she was driving.
Road walker: Police were asked to conduct a welfare check on a man “walking in the roadway” near Church and Patch streets at 4:15 p.m. When an officer arrived, the man was on the sidewalk.
Busted: A known 54-year-old man was cited for driving while suspended on the 4900 block of Main St. at 4:38 p.m.
Roundabout hit & run: A 53-year-old woman reported her vehicle was struck by a landscaping trailer in the roundabout at Second St. and Maria Dr. at 4:39 p.m.
Hatin’ the lazyboy: A property manager contacted police at 4:20 p.m. from the 200 block of Prentice St. North to report that a 63-year-old male tenant repeatedly sent emails to the landlord to complain about his upstairs neighbor using her recliner or walking loudly. The man was yelling at the landlord to address the problem. Additional details were not included in the blotter.
Gunshots, maybe: Police were asked to conduct extra patrol near Union St. and Sixth Ave. at 4:59 p.m. when a 47-year-old man reported hearing “10 gunshots two days in a row” coming from the south.
Armed with a knife: Police responded to the 1200 block of Wilshire Dr. at 8:53 p.m. when a woman reported a man was attacking another woman, and that he was possibly armed with a knife. The man was gone when officers arrived, and the incident was turned over to the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.
Domestic: Police were called to Washington Ave. and Union St. at 9:09 p.m. when a caller reported seeing a woman run from a house screaming. Additional details were not included in the blotter.
Cutting cheese: A 22-year-old woman called police to Roger’s Cinema, 2725 Church St., at 9:07 p.m., to report that when she exited the building after a movie, she saw “cheese cut up on the windshield of her vehicle.” No damage was caused.
Furniture burners: Police were called to Shaurette and Division streets at 9:30 p.m. when a neighbor complained about a loud party. When officers arrived, they only saw four people sitting around a campfire, but they were “actively smashing furniture” to burn. They were advised not to burn any of the furniture.
Redacted, for some reason: A known 50-year-old man was cited for stealing several items from Kwik Trip, 1600 Maria Dr., at 10:57 p.m. The items he took were redacted from the blotter.
Homeless: Police were asked to move a known 41-year-old homeless man from sleeping in the overhang, off the alley, of a building on the 1200 block of Third St. at 11:14 p.m.
September 3
After hours: Three known men, ages 39, 58, and 66, were cited for being in KASH Park, 1201 West Whitney St., after hours at 12:10 a.m.
Who knows: A disturbance involving a minor was reported on the 700 block of Bukolt Ave. at 12:26 a.m., but no details were included in the blotter.
Extra patrol: Police were asked to conduct extra patrol at Turbo Wash, 3457 Church St., at 1:19 a.m. to ensure no homeless people were sleeping in the facility.
Overdue eviction: Police were called to West Clark St. and West River Dr. at 1:43 a.m. to assist with an eviction. Two male tenants, ages 23 and 29, were evicted on Aug. 9 but never left, so the property owner “decided at 2 a.m. it was time to lock [them] out of the house.” Officers helped mitigate the situation and assisted the two men in finding a hotel room for the night.
Lack of maintenance: Police stopped to check on a vehicle pulled over on the side of the road on the 300 block of Division St. North at 2:49 a.m. It turned out the vehicle had “no oil and was overheated.” The two women inside the vehicle were OK and declined a ride to get oil from a gas station, opting to walk home.
Attempted break-in: Police responded to Tokyo Steak House, 1617 Academy Ave., at 3:17 a.m., for a report of a known man, 50, attempting to break into the restaurant, which was closed. The man was placed on a probation hold and booked into jail.
Dead: Police were called to Hwy. 10 East and Brilowski Rd. at 6:42 a.m. when a 65-year-old man’s vehicle “died” at the intersection. An officer remained on the scene until a tow company arrived.
