PLOVER – Members of Plover VFW Post 10262 and village staff joined forces Saturday to clean up Hoover Avenue as part of the fourth annual Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Day of Service.

The cleanup effort began with a safety briefing led by Village of Plover Public Works Manager Scott Klemm before the “VFW Cleanup Brigade” split into teams and spread out along Hoover Avenue, collecting trash and litter from Hwy. B to Hwy. HH. The Village of Plover collected the filled bags and hauled them to a local disposal site.

Participants in the cleanup included Klemm, VFW Chief of Staff Norb Strasser, post members Fred Gburek, John Herek, Casey Gagas (Auxiliary), John Cansino, Sandy Cansino (Auxiliary), Larry Kinyon, Perry Engel, Don Mugridge and James Bigback.

“Veterans of every stripe are leading the charge to serve our neighbors and fellow citizens,” Strasser said. “The positive feedback from our VFW members and the support and appreciation from our community is a win-win.”

The VFW’s National Day of Service campaign launched in 2022. The nationwide initiative partners veterans with civic groups and community organizations to promote service and improve the well-being of local communities.
