Plover police offer safety tips for Celebrate Plover

Metro Wire Staff

The annual Celebrate Plover event is set to take place on July 26 and 27 with a variety of activities for all ages. This year’s festivities will include live music, food and beverages, youth activities, and much more.

Plover police are offering the following tips for a successful Celebrate Plover:

1. Take a photo of your child in case you get separated. Missing children can be reported to the Police/Fire command post.
2. Be aware of the weather and plan accordingly.
3. Have a plan to meet up at a specific place if anyone gets separated.
4. Hydrate and wear sunscreen.
5. Lock your vehicle doors. Please don’t leave valuables out.
6. Have a designated driver if you plan on drinking alcohol.
7. To avoid the traffic congestion after the fireworks, stay awhile and enjoy the live band.
8. Please be patient when exiting the venue due to traffic congestion.
9. Leave pets at home.
10. Have fun and celebrate everything Plover has to offer.

The 5K

The fourth annual Lake Pacawa Run, Walk + Roll 5K will be on Friday at Lake Pacawa.

A Kids Fun Run for children 10 and younger is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. The 5K timed run and walk will start at 6 p.m. Registration for this event closes at 1 p.m. Friday.

Participants can support the race by purchasing a T-shirt. The event will also feature concessions, entertainment, swag bags, and prizes for top racers.

New This Year: The Car Cruise

The Jack Stand Racin’ Car Club will kick off the Celebrate Plover festivities with a car cruise from Antique Up, 3256 Church St., Stevens Point, to Lake Pacawa, 1831 Maple Dr. in Plover, on Friday, July 26, at approximately 4:45 p.m. The cruise will travel route along Water St. to County Hwy. HH, then south on Hoover Ave. to Lake Pacawa, showcasing beautiful classic cars.

At Lake Pacawa, the club will host a car show and several activities, including a basket raffle with over 50 baskets, a big ticket basket raffle, a 50/50 raffle, and Hot Wheels races for the kids.

Each child participating in the races will receive a free Hot Wheels car. There will also be a Kids’ Choice Awards voting, where children can pick their favorite car.

The Water Fights

Fire department water fights are a longtime tradition and will be held on the southern edge of Lake Pacawa Park. With participation from numerous local departments, two hose teams participate in a kind of reverse tug-o-war, using a water stream to push a suspended barrel into the other’s territory. Bleacher seating is limited, so bring a chair.
