Plover police on Tuesday identified the victim in an early-morning shooting that occurred in a mobile home park on the south side of the village.
Zachary James Deyo, 28, was killed after being shot inside a residence on Lot #44 in Voigt Plover Meadows Mobile Home Park on the 3100 block of Wisconsin Ave.
In a brief press release sent Tuesday afternoon, Chief Dan Ault said that Deyo “was not a guest of the residents” of that mobile home.
“I would like to assure the public this is an isolated incident,” Ault said.
Ault said police are still investigating the shooting that was reported shortly after 1 a.m. on Feb. 8. Deyo is the only fatality, but several others from the scene were transported to numerous hospitals in the area, he said.
Investigators from the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene. Ault said the Stevens Point Police Department also assisted during the investigation.
Detectives concluded at the scene at about 8 p.m. on Feb. 8, Ault said.
It was not immediately known if anyone had been charged in the incident, or if anyone had been taken into custody. Ault declined further comment.
