Plover firefighters to hold annual open house

Metro Wire Staff

The Plover Fire Department will open its doors to the public this week for its annual open house.

The free event will offer a slew of all-ages activities, to include station tours, an emergency vehicle display, fire extinguisher and CPR training, and kid’s games.

The event includes a popular basket raffle, and free smoke detectors will be available for attendees to take home.

Crews will demonstrate vehicle extrication (also known as the “Jaws of Life”) and plan to have a medical helicopter fly-in at Veteran’s Memorial Park next door.

Special guest appearances include Sparky the Fire Dog, Smokey the Bear, and Plover Police K9 Officer Bill, with his handler, Ofc. Seth Pionke.

Hot dogs, cheese curds, beverages, and the PFD’s 2019 Breast Cancer Awareness t-shirts, will all be available for sale during the event.

The open house will be held 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Plover Fire Department, 2400 Post Rd. The event will be held rain or shine.
