Plover committee to review Christmas walk plans, conservancy improvements

PLOVER — Plans for a new holiday attraction at Lake Pacawa Park, recent improvements at the Daniel R. Mahoney Conservancy and updated park signage will all be on the agenda when the Village of Plover Parks Development Committee meets Monday.

The committee will meet at 4:30 p.m. June 29 in the board room at the Plover Municipal Center, 2400 Post Rd.

One of the biggest discussion items will be the proposed Lake Pacawa Christmas Walk, a new event planned to run from Nov. 27 through Jan. 2. Village staff have completed a promotional flyer and are now working out the walking route based on the locations of electrical outlets around the park. They’re also determining sponsorship fees, brainstorming small performances on the bandshell stage and looking for volunteers to help organize the event.

Committee members will also receive an update on work completed at the Daniel R. Mahoney Conservancy. Public Works recently installed a new driveway off County Hwy. R and a gravel parking area with space for about eight vehicles.

Crews have also planted 62 Black Hills spruce trees around the site using funds from a Wisconsin Public Service easement and proceeds from tree removals associated with the Olive Garden development. The parking lot is expected to be paved later this summer.

The committee will also review updated plans for a new generation of park signs expected to be installed in 2027. Public Works plans to install between 18 and 22 double-sided signs throughout the village. Staff are still waiting on pricing for solar lighting but are recommending the signs remain unlit.

A parks department report also highlights several projects currently underway, including preparations for Freedom Fest on July 3 at Lake Pacawa Park, installation of outdoor exercise equipment at Little Plover River Park, improvements to the park’s disc golf course, landscaping work at Springville Pond and upgrades to security cameras and wireless equipment at Lake Pacawa.

The committee is also expected to receive updates on routine park maintenance, summer tournaments and rentals, and early planning for Celebrate Plover.
