Plover celebrates Arbor Day with local kids

PLOVER — The village of Plover hosted a brief Arbor Day ceremony on Sept. 30 at Easlan-Weslan Park, 2200 Cedar Drive.
About 20 children from the Plover Boys & Girls Club helped plant trees alongside village officials, staff, police, and firefighters. Village planner Karmen Anderson emphasized the importance of trees, noting their environmental benefits.
“Arbor Day is a day to celebrate trees and the forest and the importance of all they do for us, our environment, and our community,” Anderson said to the group of children.
She also highlighted the village’s commitment to tree conservation, mentioning that Plover has maintained its Tree City USA designation for over three decades.
“That’s really a good testament to the work we put into planting trees like we are today, as well as our conservation and education efforts,” Anderson said.
Anderson also quizzed the kids on the benefits trees provide to the community. Responses ranged from oxygen, shade, and habitats for animals.
While Abror Day is in April, public works manager Scott Klemm explained the village sometimes marks the national celebration in the fall because transplanted trees establish roots more effectively during this season.
Sponsors for the event included Green Tree Nursery, 3D Tree Transplanting, and Green Thumb Sprinklers & Landscaping.
