Photos: Point, Plover officers rake in the bucks for Special Olympics

Local law enforcement has raised nearly $2,000 for the Special Olympics of Wisconsin.
Officers from the Stevens Point and UW-Stevens Point Police departments spent the morning at Dunkin/Baskins Robbins on Aug 19. Officers waved at passersby from the roof, and some spent the morning inside the store running orders.
The “Cop on a Rooftop” fundraiser is organized by the Special Olympics of Wisconsin and has been held at Dunkin’ Donuts locations across the nation for well over a decade. It’s the first time Stevens Point has participated in the event, as Dunkin’ just opened on Division St. last October.
Meanwhile, officers from the Plover Police and Fire departments were at Dunkin’ at 3005 Village Park Dr., holding its annual fundraiser.
Due to the design of that building, officers aren’t able to position themselves on the roof. They improvise by raising themselves about 80 feet in the air via the fire department’s ladder truck. Plover Police Chief Ryan Fox was inside the store wearing a donut costume.
Both locations were visited by the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office. Donors were offered coupons for free donuts and coffee.
By day’s end, Plover had raised $1,184 and Stevens Point raised $760.89.
