Firefighters say there were no injuries in a Friday morning truck fire on the city’s east end.
Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Hwy. 10 East and Brilowski Rd. at 8:43 a.m. on Oct. 16. Capt. Paul Mattlin from the Stevens Point Fire Department said the flames were clearly visible when a crew from Station No. 2 turned into Main St.
“We turned the corner and I thought, ‘Holy cow,'” Mattlin said. “It was going pretty good when we arrived.”
The vehicle is a total loss, Mattlin said.
Stevens Point Police Officer Mel Plummer was on patrol in the area when he was called to the scene.
“When I arrived I saw the entire cab was engulfed, and I thought, ‘No way a fire extinguisher’s gonna do it,'” Plummer said.
Plummer said the fire was not the result of any collision, and the vehicle was stopped when the fire began. Both occupants evacuated safely, he said.
Police closed westbound traffic lanes east of Brilowski Rd. while firefighters extinguished the blaze. Fred’s Towing was called to retrieve the vehicle.
Crews were on scene for about an hour.
