Michael Lackey, 26, holds up a dish of the Nov. 19 Flavor of the Day—cake batter—and a copy of this week’s Metro Wire news magazine on the first day of the business’s reopening.

Lackey is a Chicago native who came to Stevens Point to study business. He was working at the southside soft serve business at 1232 Park St. on Friday, the first day the business reopened for winter hours. The store’s regular season ended in October.

“After a little break, we couldn’t wait to get back to helping the best customers in the world,” Carl DeBolt, Carl D’s owner, said on the company’s Facebook page earlier this week.

Lackey said the soft-serve stand, which also serves flavored popcorn, two types of chili, split pea, and hearty chicken noodle soup will also open on Christmas Day again this year for a special fundraiser.

Carl D’s will remain open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from noon to 8 p.m. until further notice.
