Photo contest announced by city treasurer’s office

The city treasurer’s office has announced its first annual photo contest.

Submissions from the public should highlight the natural beauty/landscapes, architectural features, or other public areas/events from locations inside the city limits.

The city treasurer’s office has been looking for some way to “dress up” the annual budget book—a typically “bland document,” according to Treasurer Corey Ladick, to better engage the public in the city’s finances. The idea for the contest came from Deputy Comptroller-Treasurer Carrie Freeberg.

“I decided that adding pictures to the budget would show pride in our city and also help dress it up a little,” Freeberg said.

Last year, the office used a photograph of the lagoon at Pfiffner Pioneer Park, near the Riverfront Arts Center, on the budget book cover.

Freeberg said she’s hoping the office will receive a “variety of pictures” for placement throughout the annual budget book. The photographer whose picture is chosen for the cover will win a City of Stevens Point sweatshirt.

High-resolution photos in portrait (vertical) orientation should be sent, along with the photographer’s name, address, phone number, and a brief description/location of the photograph, to [email protected].

Photos must be received by Oct. 11.
