Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Dahl dealership parking lot

STEVENS POINT — A 48-year-old man was struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon in the parking lot of a Stevens Point auto dealership, temporarily slowing traffic on U.S. Highway 10.

Stevens Point police and paramedics from the Stevens Point Fire Department were dispatched at 3:19 p.m. on July 20 to 5441 U.S. Highway 10 East, the location of Dahl Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, after a caller reported a vehicle had struck a pedestrian in the dealership’s parking lot.

According to emergency dispatch reports, the caller said the pedestrian suffered an “obviously broken leg,” a detail later confirmed by Police Chief Ed Orgon.

Orgon said the man was walking west on the sidewalk in front of the dealership when a vehicle exiting the business struck him. The motorist said they did not see the man, Orgon said.

Although the crash occurred in the parking lot, police temporarily closed the south lane of eastbound U.S. Highway 10 while first responders treated the victim and the ambulance loaded the patient, causing traffic to back up for more than a mile.

The man was transported by ambulance to Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital. Orgon said officers are currently pulling surveillance video to determine whether the motorist would be charged or cited.
