STEVENS POINT — Cyclists of all ages and abilities will hit the roads around Stevens Point this month as the Hostel Shoppe hosts its seventh annual Pedal Point Rally, a two-day fundraising event benefiting Spokes Fighting Strokes.

The rally is scheduled for July 17-18 and will feature group rides, family activities, demonstrations and games, with proceeds supporting the adaptive cycling organization, which helps stroke survivors and others with neurological or physical disabilities regain independence through cycling.

Friday’s activities include guided 15- and 30-mile rides through Stevens Point, a stop at the Riverfront Arts Center, a catered lunch from Polito’s Pizza and a social gathering at the Stevens Point Brewery beer garden.

On Saturday, participants can choose from 10-, 20- or 40-mile routes on scenic roads east of Stevens Point. The 20- and 40-mile rides will include a rest stop and support vehicle. All routes pass by Feltz Dairy Store, where riders can stop for ice cream and cheese curds.

The event also will feature bicycle and recumbent trike demonstrations from Catrike, ICE Trikes and T-Cycle, along with an El Metate Taqueria food truck, Bike Bingo, a Poker Ride and activities for children and adults.

Children ages 15 and younger may participate free with registration, and organizers say routes are available for riders of all experience levels.

The rally raises money for Spokes Fighting Strokes, an organization founded by stroke survivor Dan Zimmerman. After suffering a stroke in 2005, Zimmerman created the organization to help stroke survivors and others living with conditions such as traumatic brain injuries, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, limb loss, paralysis, balance disorders and autism experience the benefits of adaptive cycling.

Reduced-rate registration is available through June 30. Participants may register individually or as families.

The Pedal Point Rally is presented by Schwalbe, with additional sponsorship from ICE Trikes and HP Velotechnik.
