Pedal Point Rally ’21 brings in over $30,000 for kids
By Patrick Lynn
More than 200 bicyclists turned out for this month’s Pedal Point Rally to raise over $30,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County.
Area individuals participated both remotely and during an in-person event held at the Hostel Shoppe, 3201 John Joanis Dr. on July 17, to complete four-, 13-, or 20-mile rides.
Sponsors for this year’s event included Len Dudas Motors, News Channel 7, NRG Media, others. The funds raised will benefit the organization’s 10 sites across the county.
Prizes were given to individuals and teams who biked the most miles and raised the most funds. Roger Kelnhofer biked over 1,500 miles in the month of June to win the Dedicated Cyclist award, Ty Portzen raised $650 to win the BGC Backer award, and the team “2 Bents with a Wedgie” won both team awards for biking the most miles and raising the most funds.
A new bicycle was handed out as a door prize, and pre-season Green Bay Packer tickets were raffled off during the event.
The Boys & Girls Club offers a variety of programming for kids. Over the summer, programming includes Healthy Habits, which teaches children how to make delicious meals that are nutritious as well, Homework Help, a program designed to help students, and Triple Play, a gym-like program that keeps our youth active and sparks interest in team and recreational sports.
