Pedal Point Rally ’20 goes virtual

By Patrick Lynn

The annual Bike for Boys & Girls Club will go on this summer as a virtual riding event.

The “bike-on-your-own” event will challenge participants to bike a total of 50 to 1,000 miles over the course of a month, beginning July 1. Routes and maps will be provided from previous events, or participants can also choose their own routes.

The fundraising event is being sponsored by the Hostel Shoppe.

“We believe this will be a great outlet for families and avid bikers to not only bike through beautiful Portage County but also support our children and their favorite programs,” said Kevin Quevillon, Boys & Girls Club executive director.

Registration is free of charge but participants will have the opportunity to win prizes by fundraising for the Boys & Girls Club. Those who complete their monthlong challenge and raise at least $25 in donations or pledges will receive a t-shirt, water bottle, and will be entered to win larger prizes. Prizes from sponsors will also be awarded to participants who bike the most miles and the participant who raises the most in pledges or donations.

“We are sad that we have had to make these changes, but we are excited that people will still be able to enjoy the outdoors while cycling and supporting the club,” said Breanna VanDeHey, owner of the Hostel Shoppe. “We are looking forward to next year already and cannot wait to have everyone together again.”

Those who are interested in participating in this event can register at https://runsignup.com/Race/WI/AnyCity/2020VirtualPedalPointRally by July 12, 2020.
