PCBC to offer free presentation on suicide prevention

Metro Wire Staff

The Portage Co. Business Council is hosting a free March 10 presentation on suicide prevention, and the event is open to members and non-members alike.

The “QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Training for Suicide Prevention” is being held as part of the PBCB’s Business X-Change, which meets monthly. The program allows business owners and their employees the opportunity to discuss pertinent topics, learn from local industry leaders, and learn from each other.

There is no cost to attend the Zoom presentation.

The presentation will be given by Michelle Nelson, a licensed psychotherapist and chairwoman of the Suicide Prevention & Mental Health Awareness Coalition of Portage County.

Nelson has been QPR-certified for over a decade and has worked in the mental health field for more than 20 years.

The QPR program aims to reduce suicidal behaviors and save lives by providing innovative, practical, and proven suicidal prevention training. QPR empowers all people, regardless of their background, to make a positive difference in the life of someone they know.

The presentation will teach how to recognize the warning signs of suicide, how to offer hope, and how to get help and save a life.

The presentation will be held Wednesday, March 10 from 7:30-8:30 a.m. Non-members of the PCBC will be granted a guest pass by calling the PCBC at 715.344.1940.

Pre-registration is required by March 9. Online registration is available here.
