STEVENS POINT — Behind a dominant pitching performance and powerful offense, the Pacelli Catholic High School softball team cruised to a 14-0 shutout over Tri-County on Thursday.
The home win was sealed in five innings at Iverson Park, with senior Ava Tess throwing a no-hitter and striking out seven in the victory.
Tess also went 1-for-3 at the plate with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. Amelia Martini led the Cardinals’ offense with five RBIs, going 2-for-3 with a double and a home run. Sophomore Grace Hinker also tallied three hits, three runs and an RBI, while senior Kaylin Yenter reached base twice and scored once.
Pacelli scored early and often, plating four runs in the first inning and adding three more in the second. The team collected 14 hits in total, with contributions from across the lineup. The Cardinals were flawless defensively, committing no errors.
Tri-County’s offense was stifled, with only two base runners reaching on walks. Pacelli’s defense backed up Tess with clean fielding to preserve the no-hitter.
The Cardinals look to carry their momentum into Friday night’s game, when they face Mosinee at 7 p.m. at Athletic Park in Wausau.
