Students at P.J. Jacobs Jr. High have raised enough money to send eight veterans on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight.

Students at the school raise money each year through a series of contests and challenges during its annual birthday celebration, which also includes special theme days, games, and teacher-versus-student sportings events.

The event is traditionally held before spring break, but due to inclement weather the event was moved to mid-April and no media was invited.

Members of AMVETS Post 1051 were on hand to ceremoniously accept the $4,000 check, which covers the cost of sending eight veterans to Washington, D.C. The Honor Flight sends four planeloads of veterans every year to the capitol for a day of sightseeing at the memorials built in their honor.

The trip is capped off with a large welcome home ceremony at the Central Wisconsin Airport, typically with over 1,000 local residents in attendance to cheer on the returning veterans.
