Metro Wire Staff

One man is dead following a single-vehicle collision on Hwy. 10 near Hwy. B on Friday.

Portage Co. deputies and rescue crews from Amherst were called to the scene at 7:03 a.m. on Nov. 18.

Sheriff Mike Lukas said the vehicle in the westbound lane lost control and rolled over on a slippery patch of highway, flipped into a ditch, and came to rest on its tires.

A male passenger was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorist and other passengers received minor injuries but declined medical attention.

Lukas said speed and road conditions are contributing factors to the collision.

He added a warning for other motorists: “People should slow down, there are icy spots in some areas.”

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time pending notification of the family.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Amherst Fire Department, Amherst EMS, Stevens Point Fire Department, and Portage County Medical Examiner.
