One dead, two injured in Hwy. 10 crash

By Brandi Makuski

One person died in a three-vehicle crash on Saturday, and two others were rushed to area hospitals for trauma.

Emergency crews from multiple departments responded to the crash near the Hwy. 10/Algoma St. intersection in the Town of Hull just before 5 p.m.

According to a news release from Lt. Jeff Coey of the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office, a westbound Saturn Ion collided head-on with an eastbound GMC Sierra pickup truck.

A third vehicle sustained minor damage as a result of the crash, he said.

The driver of the Saturn was unresponsive when officers arrived, and was pronounced dead by the Portage Co. Medical Examiner.

Hwy. 10 eastbound was closed between County Hwy. R and County Hwy. J for several hours during the accident reconstruction.

Also responding to the scene were Stevens Point and Plover police departments, the Stevens Point Fire Department and Ambulance Service, emergency crews from Hull, and the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Names of the victims are being withheld at this time, Coey said.
