One dead following Saturday crash in Hull

By Patrick Lynn

One man is dead and another has life-threatening injuries following a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning.

The Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office reports that the driver, a 24-year-old man, failed to negotiate a curve while traveling westbound on Old Highway 18, just east of County Road R. His vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.

The accident occurred at about 5:50 a.m. on Aug 4.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a 28-year-old man, sustained life-threatening injuries. He was extricated from the vehicle with the help of firefighters and transported by Spirit Air to Aspirus Wausau.

Speed is a contributing factor to this crash, according to the sheriff’s office, which remains under investigation.

The name of the deceased and the critically injured passenger will be released on Monday.

Also responding to the scene were Hull Fire and EMS and Stevens Point and Plover Fire departments.
