NWS: Rain, strong winds expected in Central Wisconsin
Metro Wire Staff
PORTAGE COUNTY — Central Wisconsin can expect heavy rain and gusty winds starting this evening and continuing through much of Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Green Bay.
Forecasters predict widespread rainfall will move northward late Monday afternoon, bringing totals of 0.5 to 1.25 inches across the region. Central Wisconsin is expected to see the heaviest rainfall, with localized amounts exceeding one inch.
The NWS warns of the potential for localized flooding, particularly in areas where storm drains are clogged with leaves.
Strong southeast winds, with gusts reaching 35-45 mph, are expected to accompany the rain late Monday night into early Tuesday. The high winds could create hazardous conditions for high-profile vehicles on north-south roads, including Interstates 41 and 43.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor decorations and loose items to prevent them from being blown around.
Drivers and residents are urged to exercise caution, as travel conditions may deteriorate during the storm.
