Noon Lions honors longtime member

Metro Wire Staff

The Stevens Point Noon Lions club awarded longtime member Norb Wozniak the prestigious Birch-Sturm Fellowship during its June 12 meeting held at Pfiffner Pioneer Park.

Birch-Sturm Fellows are recognized for their commitment to serving the people in their community and beyond, and who have exemplified undying dedication to humanitarian works.

The award is named in honor of the only two Wisconsin presidents of Lions Clubs International, Frank Birch, and Clarence Sturm.

Wozniak has spent over 40 years as a Lions member in Juneau and Stevens Point. He chairs the Deer Hide program and the committee that transports donated retinas to hospitals to save sight for others.

The deer hides are donated by hunters at local sites, then transported to the Wisconsin Lions Camp at Rosholt for salting/palletizing and sales to tanneries. Funds raised benefit Lions projects, including the Lions Camp, operated by the Wisconsin Lions Foundation.

The Stevens Point Noon Lions Club was founded in the spring of 1926 and has operated continuously for 94 years. The club meets twice monthly.

Lions International is the world’s largest service club with 1.4 million members and is open to men and women.
