A non-traditional UW-Stevens Point student has been awarded a scholarship by a local women’s group.
Jill Weyers is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education at UWSP. Weyer accepted the award on May 12 from the Stevens Point PEO Chapter CB.
She previously received an associate’s degree in the same field from Mid-State and has been working in the field for eight years. Weyer will graduate from UWSP in the winter.
It’s the second year that PEO Chapter CB has awarded an educational scholarship to a Portage County student. The scholarship program is named in honor of Mrs. Ruth Steffen who had been a long-time member of PEO before dying in 2019.
The Ruth Steffen Memorial Scholarship is available annually to Portage County women pursuing undergraduate studies, as a non-traditional student, at UW-Stevens Point or Midstate Technical College.
