About 20 residents are without water on Monday due to a water main break.

City utilities crews were at Shaurette and Wood streets on Sunday to repair a water main break. Water service was restored, but then shut off again on Monday when crews returned to resume repairs.

Several residents contacted the Metro Wire on Monday morning seeking information about the water outage.

It was not immediately clear why neighborhood residents, or the press, weren’t notified about the road closure or water outage, although department heads are not allowed to talk to the press without Mayor Mike Wiza’s permission. Previously, the public works department has regularly notified the public and press about road closures and water main breaks.

City utilities director Joel Lemke did confirm, though, that water restoration was expected sometime Monday afternoon.

City offices were closed on Jan. 19 due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. federal holiday.
