HULL — Fire crews from Stevens Point, Plover, and Hull responded to a garage fire at a Hull residence Tuesday afternoon.

The fire, which broke out at 535 Maple Bluff Rd., was reported at 2:40 p.m.

Residents, who were home at the time, safely evacuated the house as temperatures hovered around 27 degrees. Crews worked for about three hours to extinguish the blaze and clear the scene.

Hull Assistant Fire Chief Nicholas Proulx said firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames visible from the attached garage.

“We had smoke showing from both garage doors and the service door,” Proulx said. “Crews entered through the service door and found a fire in the back of the garage. They knocked it down and moved to overhaul the area.”

While the fire extended into the garage’s eaves, it did not spread to the home’s living areas, Proulx said. The house sustained smoke and water damage to the kitchen, but the living space remains habitable.

Two pets—a dog and a cat—were safely removed from the home, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Responding agencies included Stevens Point Fire Department, Plover Fire Department, Hull Fire Department, Wisconsin Public Service, the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, and Stevens Point Police Department.
