By Brandi Makuski

A home on the 2500 block of Ellis St. sustained smoke and structural damage following a Tuesday night fire.

Firefighters from Stevens Point, Plover and Hull responded to 2508 Ellis St. at 9:02 PM.

“When we arrived, we had heavy smoke and flames coming from the B side (facing east) second-floor windows, extending up to the dormers and on to the roof,” said Capt. J.B. Moody with the SPFD.

The fire was contained and out at 9:18, he said, adding most of the home sustained at least some smoke and water damage. The second floor of the home was currently being remodeled, he added, but said the cause of the fire was still being investigated.

“But everyone was evacuated prior to our arrival, and no one was injured from the fire,” he said.

Moody firefighters quickly noticed smoke also pouring from the back of the home and, but after investigating determined nearby homes were not in danger, otherwise they’d have pulled larger hoses from their trucks.

The scene was cleared by 10:22 PM. Moody said he does not believe the residents will be displaced.

Tuesday marks the second Stevens Point home fire for the Metro crew in as many weeks. A Feb. 5 fire several blocks away also yielded no injuries
