No injuries in Center St. fire

Stevens Point firefighters responded to a home on the 2000 block of Center St. on Monday after a 911 call reported an oven fire.

Dispatchers initially requested all Metro Fire crews to respond, according to Assistant Chief Joe Gemza, which is standard practice anytime smoke or fire is reported from a structure.

“Metro was canceled, though, and the fire was out when we arrived,” Gemza said.

The call came in shortly after 9 a.m. on Nov. 12. Gemza said there were no injuries and damage was limited to the kitchen.
