New soccer coach looking forward to season

By Brandi Makuski

SPASH girls soccer hits the field this spring under the wing of a new coach.

Minnesota native Allie Rogosheske was hired by the school last fall, replacing Don Peel who resigned the spot after last season.

Rogosheske is the mother of toddler twins, who spent a decade teaching in Plano, Texas schools when the family decided they wanted to be closer to home. When he wife was hired as the head soccer coach at UW-Stevens Point, she said, their relocation plans were complete.

“Working with high school students is always a great mix,” she said. “I mean, you’re going to have some beginners, but for the most part they’re experienced. But it’s different from working with beginners who are just learning the fundamentals of the game.”

Rogosheske was head coach at Plano West Senior High for two seasons; she also played soccer at UW-Madison, where she was a two-year captain for the Badgers.

She is a 2001 graduate from UW-Madison, also earning a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology from Texas Women’s University in 2012.

“Whether it’s teaching or coaching, it’s basically the same, but it’s so fun to see that moment when something clicks, and they get it,” she said. “That’s what keeps me coming back. It’s fun to see people with such passion for the game.”

Tryouts for the team began March 19, and practices kick off in two weeks.

“SPASH has seen some success in the past, so my goal going into the season is just to see what I have, and put them in the best possible position to win,” she added.
