Gallery Q Artists Cooperative will be opening a new exhibition with a hometown feel next month.

“Hometown: Portage County” opens on Tuesday, March 8, at Gallery Q in downtown Stevens Point. The show’s theme is city life and wildlife in Portage Co.

According to a news release from the Gallery, several artists capture Portage County’s “iconic beauty” via the mediums of paint, photography, and printmaking. Featured Gallery Q artist members include Justine Pawelski, Dan Sivek, John Hartman, and Robert Rosen.

Pawelski is a printmaker who tends toward spiritual subjects, paying attention to light, atmospheric conditions, and how colors reflect off surfaces. Sivek has Stevens Point street scenes as well as rural landscapes and riverscapes and works in several 2-D mediums including oil, watercolor and ink, and soft pastel.

Hartman is a well-known photographer in the area and utilizes a unique skill of light-painting in some of his work. Rosen’s formal training in music leads him to improvise in his photography, entering a zone receptive to that certain place and time, and operating at the moment.

The artists will be available at the exhibit, which runs through May 3.

Gallery Q is run by a cooperative of local artists, accepted through a juried process. The gallery is located at 1108 Main St. Visitors are welcome and all art is for sale.

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information go to qartistscooperative.com.
