New provider comes to ENT clinic at Aspirus

STEVENS POINT — Aspirus Health has welcomed a new provider to its ear, nose and throat team in Stevens Point.
Christy Mattern, a nationally certified physician assistant, recently joined the otolaryngology department at Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital, where she will care for patients dealing with a wide range of ENT concerns, from children with recurring ear infections to older adults experiencing sudden hearing loss.
Mattern earned her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Elon University and previously received her bachelor’s degree from University of Wisconsin–Madison. She is certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Before moving into otolaryngology, Mattern worked in urgent care, experience she said helped prepare her to treat a variety of patient needs.
“I strongly believe a vital part of our role as healthcare providers is to educate,” Mattern said in a statement. “Helping the patient understand what is occurring in their body is often one of the most powerful tools we have to relieve medical stress and fear.”
She added that she sees her role as helping patients understand their options so they can make informed decisions about their care.
According to Aspirus, Mattern places a strong emphasis on patient education, communication and collaborative decision-making.
When she’s not working, Mattern enjoys hiking, camping, reading and planning her next travel adventure.
She is now accepting new patients at Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital, 824 Illinois Ave., and offers same-day appointments for issues including ear pain, sudden hearing loss and pediatric concerns. More information is available through Aspirus Health or by calling 715-346-5000.
