A new club has been formed for those interested in taking flight.

The Stevens Point Area Flying Club (SPAFC), founded by local resident and aviation investor Paul Schumi, will hold an informational meeting for prospective new members on July 17. Anyone interested in flying, aviation socials, flight training, safety training, and aviation fun, is welcome to attend.

The SPAFC is a non-profit, social flying club with a Stevens Point-based Certified Flight Instructor also on board. In a news release to the media, Schumi said the core group identified the need for a “high-quality aircraft to be located directly at the Stevens Point Airport (KSTE), and to be made available for area flyers.”

After months of planning, the Flying Club in Stevens Point is ready to launch.

Schumi said SPAFC has acquired a Piper Archer aircraft, and leased a private hangar at the Stevens Point Airport (KSTE), with flight operations expected to startup in a few weeks. The newly formed Flying Club has an upcoming information meeting for everyone interested in

“We are excited about the level of local interest in flying and learning to fly, and the prospects for young people to find their passion, or potentially a career in aviation,” Schumi said. “The Club is committed to providing a terrific aviation experience and great value for anyone interested to fly airplanes in the Stevens Point area.”

The Club’s information meeting on Saturday, July 17 at 9 a.m. at the Stevens Point Municipal Airport Main Terminal Building, located at 4501 Highway 66.
