New boxing gym finds home in Point

By Patrick Lynn

When Shawn Payne moved to Stevens Point from Milwaukee, he noticed a gap in the local boxing gym scene.

After completing his degree in Business Administration at Mid-State Technical College, he opened SP Boxing, 3260 Church St.

Payne says he a professional boxer and plans to offer one-on-one and small group training sessions.

“People come to SP Boxing with different goals—some want to learn self-defense techniques; some people want to get in the best shape of their lives; others are looking for a different way to work out, and I have students who want to box at the amateur and professional level,” Payne said in an email. “I am here to work with people to help them reach their goals and customize a program and workout routine that works for their schedule and budget.”

Payne will offer 30-minute workouts for all fitness levels, where students will get full-body workouts by combining footwork with jabs, cross-hooks, and uppercut combinations.

Payne said the workouts are customized, and students won’t get bored.

“I enjoy teaching boxing and watching people improve with each workout,” he said.

SP Boxing is located at 3260 Church St. in Stevens Point. More information can be found on the company’s Facebook page, or by email at [email protected].
