STEVENS POINT — The city’s latest addition to its artistic light project has been unveiled near the Pfiffner Pioneer Park Bandshell.
The new installation, titled “Tootin’ Our Horn,” was announced by Mayor Mike Wiza on Monday.
The light pole, designed by Mackenzie Biadasz, features a trumpet player as a tribute to longtime city band trumpet player Mark Ilten.
Local talents brought the project to life, with Andy Vollert handling fabrication, Bushman Electric completing the wiring, and Point Coating managing the powder coating. City streets employees installed the light near the bandshell, where the City Band performs during summer Wednesday evenings.
Mayor Wiza praised the community’s ongoing support for the artistic light initiative, which began in late 2020 with the Mayor’s Art Challenge.
“I just love how the community has embraced the light project,” Wiza said. “The designs keep coming, the donations keep coming, and we’ll have the Green Circle Trail lined in no time.”
Plans are underway to complete additional light poles over the winter, with one paying tribute to the armed forces expected to be ready for Memorial Day services in the park in 2025.
