Need greater than ever for Project Fresh Start

Metro Wire Staff

Supply collection is underway for Project Fresh Start, but the need for donations this year is greater than ever.

The program, which provides school supplies to any Portage Co. student qualifying for free or reduced lunch, dolled out supplied for more than 900 students last year. Over 3,000 students will be eligible this year, according to the United Way of Portage County Volunteer Center program.

Any 4K-12 student enrolled in a Portage County school and who qualifies for the federal free and reduced-price meal program is eligible to receive supplies. Registration is open through Friday, July 24. The link to online registration for families, and a list of collection sites, can be found at www.volunteersrock.org/pfs.

“Our need for supplies is greater than ever this year, and the community continues to come together to support the students and families of Portage County,” said Kelly Skeels, United Way of Portage County Community Services Coordinator.
