Monogram to host hazmat training exercise on Saturday

By Brandi Makuski

Monogram Foods in Plover is hosting a full-scale hazmat emergency training event on Saturday.

The company is partnering with Portage Co. Emergency Management for the Dec. 2 training scenario, which supposes a large-scale hazardous materials incident. The scenario will test the existing plans, practices, and follow-through in a multi-jurisdictional response to an emergency.

The exercise will involve Monogram food leaders and staff, Plover police and fire departments, and hazmat teams from Portage and Waupaca Counties.

Bonnie Skalecke, deputy director of Portage Co. Emergency Management, said the exercise has been in the planning stages for several months and is designed to ensure a high level of readiness in the event of a local emergency.

As part of the exercise, Roberts Rd. will be closed on Dec. 2 from 8 a.m. to noon.
