Misinformed 911 caller prompts heavy police response to Sentry

By Brandi Makuski

Police responded in force to Sentry on the city’s north side after a caller reported someone had barricaded themselves inside an office there.

Fearing the person may have wanted to cause harm to themselves or others, multiple squads responded shortly after noon on Feb. 7 to the 1800 block of North Point Drive.

“But it turned out the information we got was different from what we found when we got there,” said Assistant Chief Mike Rottier, who referred to the situation as “a bad game of telephone”.

“We basically assisted their security over there with an unwanted person,” Rottier said, adding the individual was a former employee who “wanted to get a few words in before leaving”.

Rottier said the man was escorted off the property without incident. No citations or charges were filed.
